Drought management in metropolitan areas

Drought management in metropolitan areas has become a critical challenge in the face of increasingly extreme episodes. This session will address the strategies implemented during the recent drought in Catalonia, with a particular focus on the deployment of the Special Drought Plan and the use of alternative resources such as reclaimed and desalinated water. The case of reclaimed water reuse in the Llobregat River as a pre-potable resource will be presented, along with the associated safety and control protocols, highlighting its impact on supply security and the resilience of the water system.
