Pressure, complexity, speed and risk: the combination defining the pharma sector agenda in 2026

#FarmaTech2026, #industrialcybersecurity, #NetPharmaHub, #pharmaprocess, #regulatorycompliance

2026-06-02 10:00 2026-06-02 11:45 Europe/Madrid Pressure, complexity, speed and risk: the combination defining the pharma sector agenda in 2026
The pharmaceutical sector and the chemical industry face a dual pressure in 2026: increasing regulatory demands and technological acceleration with growing risks. The common axis is data: its integration, traceability, and security determine organizations’ ability to adapt.
Regulatory developments (Annex 22, 11, Chapter IV and NIS2) no longer require only process validation, but also demonstrating control and data integrity at every stage, driving a new governance culture.
At the same time, OT/IT threats, ransomware, and data breaches put this very asset at risk: compromising its availability invalidates regulatory compliance and threatens business continuity.
Protecting data means, at the same time, protecting the business and ensuring compliance. In this Net-Pharma Hub session, we will share experiences and solutions to address this scenario.

Advanced Robotics and AI in the Chemical Industry: What Is Real Today and What Will Come Tomorrow. Industry 4.0 Forum

2026-06-02 10:00 2026-06-02 12:00 Europe/Madrid Advanced Robotics and AI in the Chemical Industry: What Is Real Today and What Will Come Tomorrow. Industry 4.0 Forum The emergence of artificial intelligence and new generations of robots, especially humanoid robotics, is pointing to future changes in industrial processes. The chemical industry, due to its operational complexity, safety requirements, and need for efficiency, becomes an especially complex environment where the pros and cons of these technologies must be evaluated while they have not yet reached sufficient maturity. This session will examine what is already a reality in plants and processes — robotics, intelligent automation, and data-driven systems — and what the next technological waves are, particularly humanoid robotics or autonomous systems. A session to understand the trends and opportunities that may — or may not — come with the application of AI in robotics. CC3. ROOM 3.13

In the current context of decarbonization, concrete design cannot focus solely on cement. Aggregates, due to their nature, origin, grading and quality, play a decisive role in water demand, paste content, admixture dosage, mechanical performance and durability of concrete and, therefore, in its overall environmental footprint.
This session will address how to optimize the design of concrete with low-carbon cements by jointly considering cement, aggregates and admixtures, with a practical approach focused on material compatibility, production robustness and the final performance of concrete.
The session will bring together representatives from industry, sector associations and research centers to analyze challenges, design criteria and opportunities to move towards more sustainable and competitive solutions.

The round table led by ManageArt will highlight in which areas of pharmaceutical industrial sites digitalization and artificial intelligence projects are being applied. It will provide an overview of where there are opportunities to implement digital projects, quantifying the savings achieved, in order to identify which areas present challenges and opportunities to improve site competitiveness, both from an effectiveness and efficiency perspective.

Topics related to projects will be discussed from the standpoint of their organization and implementation. Among other aspects, the criteria used for evaluating decisions on project implementation will be analyzed. Likewise, the critical aspects in the development and implementation of these projects will be discussed, including the involvement of key roles to ensure success, as well as the most common barriers in this type of initiatives.

Achieved returns will be shared, and sector-specific aspects will be addressed, such as validation of systems related to artificial intelligence, experiences in regulatory audits, and expectations regarding GMP Annex 22.

Dr. Javier García Martínez, researcher and university professor, was president of IUPAC from 2022 to 2024 and will deliver the opening lecture of the COQC activities. He will discuss the chemical profession, which is undergoing a profound transformation driven by industry decarbonization, the fragmentation of supply chains, energy price volatility, tighter regulations, and the rapid adoption of automation and artificial intelligence. The chemical professional must not only generate knowledge or value, but also be capable of designing strategies, leading change, and translating science into solutions with economic, environmental, and social impact.
Next, Dr. Joan Sansaloni Valdivia will speak about entrepreneurship and industrial property. The activity will conclude with the dean of the Col·legi Oficial de Químics de Catalunya (COQC), Dr. Josep M. Fernández Novell, appointing Dr. Javier García Martínez as an Honorary Member of the COQC.

The challenges of the chemical-pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry in light of the new urban wastewater regulations

Schedule

2026-06-04 15:30 2026-06-04 18:30 Europe/Madrid The challenges of the chemical-pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry in light of the new urban wastewater regulations
The approval of Directive (EU) 2024/3019 on Urban Wastewater Treatment (UWWT) marks a turning point in European water quality policy and in the regulation of pollutants present in the urban water cycle.

The new regulation introduces more stringent requirements regarding so-called emerging contaminants, many of which are linked to sectors such as the chemical, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics industries. Its transposition into the legal frameworks of Member States, scheduled before July 2027, will entail the progressive implementation of advanced treatments (tertiary and quaternary), as well as the strengthening of aspects such as energy efficiency, health surveillance, and analytical control.

This new framework poses significant technical, regulatory, and economic challenges. On the one hand, urban water cycle operators will need to adapt their infrastructure and processes; on the other, the industry faces a scenario in which the principle of extended producer responsibility gains importance, opening a debate on the distribution of costs and responsibilities.

At the same time, relevant uncertainties remain regarding the interpretation of the regulation, its practical application, and the most appropriate management models.

In this context, ADECAGUA is organizing, within the framework of Expoquimia 2026, a technical workshop aimed at providing clarity on the main elements of the new Directive, analyzing its implications for the chemical, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics sectors, addressing associated analytical, technological, and management challenges, and fostering dialogue among public administration, the scientific community, water operators, and industry.

The workshop is addressed to:
• Environmental and sustainability managers in industry
• Urban water cycle operators
• Engineering firms and technology companies
• Public administrations
• Professionals in the water sector and environmental regulation
