The initiative, driven by Feique, brought together 17 leading companies and organisations, 62 speakers and 35 sessions around the chemical industry’s main competitiveness priorities. Energy, international trade, strategic autonomy, decarbonisation, innovation, circularity, digitalisation, talent and investment attraction were at the centre of the Smart Chemistry: Green Industry Deal agenda.
The project brought together 17 leading companies and organisations: the Asociación Empresarial Química de Tarragona (AEQT, the Tarragona Chemical Business Association), Air Liquide, BASF, Bondalti, Carburos Metálicos, the Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico y la Innovación (CDTI, the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation), the Clúster Químico de Tarragona (ChemMed), Covestro, Ercros, FEQPA, Foresa, Grupo Industrias Químicas del Ebro (IQE), Messer, Moeve, Química del Cinca, Quimidroga and Repsol.
Over four days, the venue hosted Smarttalks, conferences, round tables and institutional gatherings aimed at showcasing industrial solutions, technologies and business experiences linked to the chemical sector’s contribution to sustainability — covering: energy efficiency, electrification, hydrogen and other renewable gases, the circular economy, waste recovery, advanced materials, digitalisation, artificial intelligence applied to industrial processes, carbon capture, safety, traceability and open innovation.
In addition to the technical and business presentations, Smart Chemistry ran a programme of institutional round tables featuring representatives from the Ministry of Industry (MINTUR), the Ministry of Economy (MINECO), the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic), Cesce, ICEX-Invest in Spain and various business organisations.
With this fifth edition, Smart Chemistry has once again made clear that the transition to a climate-neutral, circular and innovative economy will only be possible if Europe has a strong and competitive chemical industry, capable of developing the materials, processes and technologies required across the whole value chain.
