Under the slogan Green Industry Deal, this forum promoted by FEIQUE will be one of the nerve centres of Expoquimia
Leading companies in the chemical sector will address the challenges of competitiveness and sustainability at Smart Chemistry
Smart Chemistry: Green Industry Deal continues to make progress in the preparation of its fifth edition, which will be held from 2 to 5 June 2026 within the framework of Expoquimia, the International Meeting of Chemistry and Process Industries, at Fira Barcelona’s Gran Via venue. Promoted by the Business Federation of the Spanish Chemical Industry (Feique), the Smart Chemistry project will once again be located at a nerve centre of the Show, as one of the main spaces for debate and reflection on the main challenges currently facing the chemical sector in terms of competitiveness, technological innovation and green transition.
Under the slogan Green Industry Deal, the meeting will bring together companies, institutions, representatives of the Administration and other key players in the industrial ecosystem to analyse the necessary conditions to move towards climate neutrality by 2050 while maintaining a competitive and innovative chemical industry.
The initiative will feature the participation of leading companies and organisations in the chemical industry that will showcase the role that the sector is playing in industrial transformation: the Chemical Business Association of Tarragona (AEQT), Air Liquide, BASF, Bondalti, Carburos Metálicos, the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI), the Tarragona Chemical Cluster (ChemMed), Covestro, Ercros, FEQPA, Foresa, Grupo Industrias Químicas del Ebro (IQE), Messer, Moeve, Química del Cinca, Quimidroga and Repsol. The project also has ChemSpain, Foro Química y Sociedad, SusChem Spain and the National Association of Chemists and Chemical Engineers of Spain (ANQUE) as Institutional Partners.
The Smart Chemistry agenda will include conferences, institutional round tables and more than 25 Smart Talks given by experts from leading companies and organizations in the chemical sector. Through these sessions, technological trends, industrial application cases and specific experiences will be presented that show how chemistry contributes to strengthening industrial competitiveness and moving towards more sustainable production models.
The topics of the Smart Talks will be oriented to key areas of innovation in the sector such as the development of technologies for the decarbonisation of industrial processes, energy efficiency and electrification, the role of hydrogen and other renewable gases, the capture, use and storage of CO₂, as well as new solutions in circular economy and waste recovery. Advances in advanced materials and sustainable polymers, the promotion of digitalisation, AI and innovation in industrial processes and the development of new chemical applications in strategic sectors such as automotive, health, energy and consumer goods will also be addressed.
“The chemical industry is a fundamental pillar of the European industrial base and a key driver of innovation for many strategic sectors. Strengthening their competitiveness is essential to maintain productive capacity, investment and technological leadership in Europe and to make progress towards climate objectives. Initiatives such as Smart Chemistry make it possible to highlight the solutions that companies are already developing to make this transition possible,” says Feique’s CEO, Juan Antonio Labat.
With this new edition, Smart Chemistry will continue to show, through concrete solutions and industrial experiences, the indispensable contribution of the chemical industry to technological innovation, the development of new industrial value chains and progress towards a viable and sustainable climate transition from a competitive point of view.
