Expoquimia 2008 was held from 20 to 24 October in Halls 1, 2 and 3 of the Gran Via Exhibition Centre, with more than 650 direct exhibitors and attended by some 58,000 professional visitors.
Expoquimia 2008 showcased a broad range of commercial and scientific aspects, with a particular emphasis on biotechnology and nanotechnology. These are the processes on which the chemistry of the 21st century will be based in order to make it more sustainable and environmentally-aware.
Noteworthy activities included the second R&D&I Awards for the use of scientific research; the 12th Seminar on Instrumental Analysis (JAI); the 11th Mediterranean Congress of Chemical Engineering; and the 19th International Seminars on Industrial Safety (ATEX).
Speakers at Expoquimia 2008 included Japanese scientist Yoshinobu Baba, Nicholas A. Peppas from the United States and Swiss scientist Kurt Wüthrich, who won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2002.
The Lab & Bio area, covering 7,500 m2, was created so that companies specializing in biotechnology and analytical instrumentation could have their own dedicated exhibition zone.
Companies specializing in new materials – composites – also had their own dedicated space in Compositech, which enjoyed tremendous success at its second edition.
Expoquimia 2008 was the only venue in Spain to put on this exhibition, organized by the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC) with the support of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
In an area of 120 square metres in the form of a house, visitors could see for themselves how chemistry has contributed to improving our quality of life.
